Hummingbirds & Hibiscus
Hand Drawn Illustrative Repeat Pattern by Joy-Louise Waterman
This piece has been made up of hand drawn floral and nature inspired pieces and
brought together as a pattern piece that can be repeated.
The initial drawing was hand drawn in my sketchbook using fine liner ink pens. I then took elements from this composition and pulled them out as single assets that could be repositioned within the pattern.
Made up of:
Hibiscus, Plumeria, Passion Flowers, Bay Leaves, Palm Foliage, Azaleas,
Berries and Hummingbirds.
Above is the initial composition, before slicing into the start of the pattern repeat tile.
From the below I fleshed out the grid gaps down the centre of the square,
to remove the visibility of the tile repeating.
This pattern has appeared on a few pieces of my work now, including my feature at Westfield London & Stratford digital art exhibition throughout summer 2021.
As well as my own printed products for examples greeting cards and notebooks.
